I cut the butterfly pretty large using Paper 13 from Paige's Wonders collection. It was perfect with all those color swatches on it. I backed it with white cardstock so all the little inside shape would still stand out against the background. I made a watercolor background using textured white cardstock. I coated it with clear gesso first so the colors could run and blend together. I used some blue, purple, pink and yellow Shimmerz Sprays to create all the background color.
I love all the little tiny details inside the butterfly. I chose this paper so I could have all the colors on the page. Since I cut the butterfly pretty large, it takes up most of the space on the page. This helped me determine where my photos would go and how I would embellish. I popped up the butterfly using adhesive foam to create some dimension.
I fussy cut some butterflies from the 6x8 Paper Pad in different sizes as well as Paper 08. I glued down just the centers so the wings could bend up. Some of the butterflies in the 6x8 Paper Pad have beautiful gold foiling on them!
I tucked in some yellow thread here for a pop of color & texture against the blue.
I love these photos! I placed them here on the bottom right since she's looking up to the left. It creates the illusion that she's looking up at the butterflies. I layered some tissue paper and a few of the patterned papers behind the pictures.
I love that you can see the cardstock's texture through the color.
I finished the layout with some gold splatters from some Jen Hadfield Gold Glitter Spray.

I used three different stamp sets on this layout. I used textured white cardstock for the background. I love that you can see the texture through the stamping, so that's why I chose that over smooth cardstock. I coated it with clear gesso to start. I used the Pop Out Nested Chevron Stamps along with a few Ink Cubes to create the arrow shapes. I stamped using Storm and then Tidal Pond over it. The I used a wet brush and a bit of water to make the colors run. NOTE: This only works if you use gesso first! I love that "my page was left out in the rain" effect. I created a horizontal design and that gave me the perfect space to place my vertical strip of photos.
Ahhhhhh....see the cardstock's texture? I LOVE THAT! The water just makes such a cool effect with the inks. I did a couple of layers of the stamp, and a few times I stamped on wet paper. It has an even different effect...so some of this is lighter and some is darker. It's all a fun experiment each time! I also splattered some white acrylic paint down once everything was dry, and at the end of the process I splattered some gold as well.
Even when you add the water, you can still see the shape of the stencil. Like I said, I did do multiple stamping, but you can get whatever effect you want by controlling how much water you add or how many stampings you do.
I also used the Heather Lowercase Alpha Stamp Set for my title. I used the Candy Violet Ink Cube. Again, I love the paper's texture...so cool.
I embellished around the page with a lot of florals that I fussy cut from a Some Days collection patterned paper. I also used a few of the Anemone Magic Washi Tape flowers...the purple ones.
The third stamp I used was a small floral from the Reset Stamp Set. I used the Candy Violet color again and just created some messy stamping around the flowers and photos...just for some detail.
It's very subtle, but I love how it looks. I popped up some of the flowers with adhesive foam to create some fun dimension.
I love the contrast of these colors! I had the perfect shade of blue thread to match the background :)

I hope this inspires you to pull out some stamps and make something awesome with them! You could totally recreate this page (or something similar) but without the water. If getting messy isn't your thing, then you could stamp and leave it neat and clean. So many possibilities for everyone's style!

Hello and Happy International Scrapbooking Day...woo hoo! There are so many fun events going on all over the internet today, and it's awesome to see that! I have a Paige Evans DT layout to share that I created for a MIXED MEDIA challenge over on her Happy Scrappy Place FB group. There are challenges and free cut files going up all day long, so go check it out!
I used Paige's Wonders collection to create this. I used the scalloped border stamp from the Wonders Stamps to start this messy background. I used smooth white cardstock for the base, and I coated it with clear gesso first to prep it. I used Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide to stamp the border in a messy vertical design. I used water and a brush to make the color run and blend. I mixed in a little Shimmerz Deep Blue Sea to give a bit of color variation. I love that you can still see the scalloped pattern but there is also a lot of that watercolor effect.
For the bottom of the page, I sprayed Shimmerz Princess and spread it around with a brush. I based my background colors on some of the colors from these banners. I fussy cut those from Paper 06 and scattered them below the photo. I machine stitched through the top of each line so I could bend up the scalloped parts. I wanted them to look like they were coming off the page and blowing in the wind :)
I embellished here with several hearts from the Chipboard Stickers and some alphas from the Sticker Book. I fussy cut the bigger heart from a cut apart sheet and layered it over the photo. I also tucked in some matching blue thread.
I layered a few patterned papers behind the photo, and I popped it up with some adhesive foam. I did splatter some white acrylic paint...I just love how that looks on darker colors.
More Chipboard Stickers over on this side as well as some pink thread.
I tore a little piece here from one of the 2x2 Paper Pads. I love that deep purple color!
I created a little cluster at the top of the page using another small piece of the banners and a few stickers from the Sticker Book. I tried to use pieces in different colors to stand out against the blue background.
Lots more close-ups here...I took a lot!
I did add some of the Puffy Phrase Stickers along the arcs of the banners, and I fussy cut this piece from a patterned paper.

Happy Thursday, friends! I'm back today with a new layout for the Paige Evans Design Team featuring all the beautiful Washi Tape from Paige’s new Wonders collection.
I used all the designs to create a fun and colorful background along
with mixed media to match. I used thick smooth white cardstock for the
base and I started by simply sticking strips of Washi Tape down
starting from the top of the page. I originally went about half way
down but then after adding the blue watercolor kept going all the way to
the bottom. After applying the tapes, I coated the page with clear gesso before adding any watercolors. I softened up the tapes by smudging a bit of white gesso over some areas and then splattering white acrylic paint using a brush.
Here you can see how the white gesso fades out some of the color & pattern. I love that cloudy look! I also attempted to add some yellow gelato here above the photo, but I didn't like how it looked. I just wiped it off, and most of it came up, but you can still see some of it. Oh well....haha...keep going!
The Washi Tapes are
all so beautiful I couldn’t choose a favorite. Once they were down, I
machine stitched along each strip with a deep turquoise thread. I think
this makes the tapes stand out a bit more and creates texture. I added a
few 6x12 Cardstock Stickers in places which I popped up using adhesive foam.
I layered a few fussy cut tags from Paper 12 behind the photo. I distressed the edges and tied a twine bow on the end. I had already decided to use this big “Hello There” Chipboard Sticker before I even applied the Washi Tape, so I knew where it was going to go. I added several different sized flowers from the Floral Die Cuts around the photo as well as above and below it.
I created my own little journaling piece here by using the outline of a sticker I used on the page. I fussy cut it out, stuck it to white cardstock, cut it again and then added my journaling. I popped it up using adhesive foam.
I used a blue Shimmerz spray to create the blue watercolor area. My
thought was since I had so much color & pattern from all the Washi Tape,
a solid blue area would help balance everything out. I kept the blue area open to give the eye a place to rest. I added some orange thread here under the title.
It was after
adding the blue that I decided to continue to washi strips down the
bottom of the layout. I popped up some of the flowers with adhesive foam
to create more dimension and I added in a few colors of tangled thread
in a few areas for even more texture and color.
Do you use adhesive foam on a regular basis? I use it on every layout...I just love how it brings such wonderful depth to the project. I think this large flower looks so good popped up while the small blue one is flat. You get that awesome shadow effect. The pink flower is chipboard, so it was already dimensional.
