Amazing Girl / Simple Stories

Happy Sunday, friends!  Today I wanted to share one of my newest layouts for Simple Stories.  I was quite excited to break into the new The Reset Girl collection!  It's so different and beautiful.   The colors are just gorgeous, and there is SO much you can do with this.  This layout only shows a tiny bit of what's in this collection.

To begin, I knew I wanted to use this super fun Cheeky Chevron cut file from The Cut Shoppe.  I chose the Speckle/Plus Sign patterned paper for it because when you fold back the other half of the chevron, you see the back of the paper.  I wanted both sides to be neutral so I could add lots of color behind the open spots.  I went through the 6x6 Paper Pad and picked lots of fun colors & patterns and adhered them and then ran each row through my sewing machine.  I smudged a lot of white gesso over a good portion of the design and then used various pinks & red Shimmerz Paints to create that watercolor effect.

I wish these alphas were an entire set, but I actually fussy cut them from one of the patterned papers.  I love the shiny gold outline!  I decided to stack them so they wrapped around the first photo.  I added a few floral elements--die cuts and clear stickers.

This gorgeous floral piece is from the Big Pieces pack, which contains really big die cuts.  It was perfect for layering under my photos.  I added some matching threads here as well.

I pulled the word GIRL from the Chipboard sheet to complete my title.  And there are a few sheets of really awesome phrase stickers, so I used three of them for my journaling.  They said exactly what I wanted to say!  It doesn't get any better (or easier) than that :)

Here's one more close-up of the area above the photos.  Those clear stickers are perfect for adding little accents to the photos, especially if there's some white space like in this one.  I love how the stitching looks...lovely added detail and texture without taking away from anything else.

Love a Life Filled With Magic / Hip Kit Club

Happy Thursday, friends!  I have another layout for Hip Kit Club to share today.  I'm continuing to use the 2016 August Hip Kits, and they are still beautiful!  I wanted to get a little creative with this page and try not to use my Cameo.  I love using it, but I know a lot of scrappy folks out there don't own one.  I like to try and show things you can do without one, so this is a good idea to try.

I used some hearts that were cut from cardstock and used them to trace onto this sheet of white cardstock.  I used a bit of gesso to color them in.  I used the Prima Oil Pastels from this month's Color Kit to add some color to them.  I used a water brush to smudge the color, but you can also use a baby wipe or your finger.  Lots of ways to get that color down, and each one of them has a different effect.  Once that was done, I took a few small circle punches and created a bunch of little circles.  I kind of created a confetti look and filled in all the hearts.  I also used some enamel dots from the kit.  This was a really fun way to get lots of color & pattern on the layout without using it in big chunks.

I combined one of the Crate Paper puffy Thickers with one of the Dear Lizzy clear stickers for my title.  Since my theme for this day was "Clever With Color," I decided to use black against all those other bright colors.  The contrast makes the darks pop, but it also makes the brights pop.

These circles were easy to do, and you could even try a different shape.  If you don't have punches, you could hand cut them and make them kind of wonky and crooked.  Or you could trace something small and cut them out.  I used some of the scraps from the punches to layer behind my photos, and I also added some tangled thread.

I used more of the Dear Lizzy clear stickers here.  I cut them so I could place each word around the curve of the heart.  And I love this phrase...my husband was playing with the girls and tossing them all around, so it seemed to fit :)

Bella Blvd / Free Spirit (Pinterest Inspired)

Hey, everyone!  I'm back today to share my latest project for Bella Blvd.  I love searching Pinterest for ideas and inspiration, and there is so much to choose from!  I found this cool image when I searched DIY crafts.  Look how cool these painted rocks look!  I love the blocks of color and all the black & white mixed in.  It jumped out at me, and I decided to recreate this fun look on my layout.

I pulled out lots of fun Bella papers, Invisibles and Clear Cuts.  I drew a bunch of wonky ovals in Silhouette Studio and cut them on white cardstock.  I tried to mimic each oval in the Pin with color papers mixed with black & white papers and a few of the clear products.  I did a little bit of inking on the background using some Shimmerz.  I did some black machine stitching for added detail and texture and then embellished with stickers, enamel hearts, thread and even an adorable Cute Clips bow.

Surprise, surprise...I used my favorite color scheme!  Blue, yellow and pink.  I used this cute yellow scalloped border sticker from Fresh Market and a piece of bright pink paper as layers here, and that cute blue and pink heart circle stickers is from She Blooms.  I used a small circle punch on one of the Star Student Invisibles to create those small circles.

I absolutely love how the black pops against the white and all those fun colors!  I embellished each oval with something small like a sticker or enamel heart.  I decided on a small title since the ovals were busy on the background.  I combined a few of the Tiny Text alphas here.

I love this bow!  It's on a paper clip, so it's easy to attach to the photo.  After I did my background inking, I added some splatters in all the colors.

Here's another angle of the photo area.  This was so different for me, but I just love how it turned out.  I would never have thought of doing this until I saw the image on Pinterest.  It's so great for getting new ideas!

And one more close-up...I think the stitching really sets everything off.

Using Older Supplies / Big Shoes Little Feet

Happy Tuesday, friends!  I'm back with another Using Older Supplies layout & process video.  I decided to dig into my enormous collection of washi tapes for this page.  The longer you scrapbook, the more stuff you accumulate over the years.  I know I'm not alone when I say that I have WAAAAAY too much washi tape! 

I scrapped this "hard to scrap" photo in color because I love it so much.  However, the color combo is difficult.  I would never match pinkish purple with dark green.  So to make it work, I created my own background using coordinating colors of washi.  I just tore strips and layered them in a vertical fashion all the way down the white cardstock.  I went over a lot of the area with white gesso so I could come in with some gelatos and Shimmerz spray inks.  I also did a lot of machine stitching.  I used only Crate Paper die cuts for layers.  I used no patterned paper on this page at all.

Although this looks very detailed and complicated, it was rather easy to create.  The washi does all the work.  I added a few Crate Paper vellum pieces and die cuts from past collections that matched the pinks and greens.  I added tissue paper under my photo as well as a random circle die cut I had lying on my desk.  I added some ink splaaters, including gold Color Shine and some Hazel and Ruby pink sequins.

My only roadblock with this was where to put my journaling.  I just wrote a few lines right on top of washi down at the bottom.  I added a few flair buttons from my stash, and my title is made from stash as well.  I cut "shoes" on my Cameo in the Shoreline font.  The gold glitter Thickers I've had for a while, and the small pink alphas are from Glitz, which isn't even in business anymore I believe.

I love this big green vellum arrow.  It matched perfectly!  I love how the white gesso faded out some of the color and patterns on the tape, but it's still visible.  I love how the pops of gold look...gold stitching is a great way to add pops of shine!

I love the look of mixing and matching alphas for a title.  I used this title because my daughter went through a phase of wanting to wear everyone's big sneakers.  So Santa brought her her own pair of big sneakers, and she wore them to bed one night.  This is how I found her after she had fallen asleep.  It was so precious!  So Big Shoes Little Feet had to be my title :)

Here's one more close-up.  These little embellishments are also from Crate Paper.  I love how the stitching turned out!

Spiegelmom Scraps Blog Hop Day 2

I was inspired by the pretty peach sequins in the Peachy Sherbet pack, so I dug through my washi tape collection and found a few to work with for my layout.  I already had my photos printed in a vertical photo strip, so I knew creating a vertical design would be fun.  I used four different washi tapes to create my background design.  I used a little bit of white gesso and some Shimmerz Coloringz and Dazzlerz to add some teal and peachy orange to the background.  That messy circle die cut is from a freebie at SpiegelMom Scraps this weekend, so you can get it for yourself!  I also used a shiny gold doilie from the store as well as a few pink sequins from the Let's Be Mermaids pack.

This is my title because that's what my mom, sister and I were doing in the photos...haha.  Most of the washi tapes I used are from Michael's, and these alphas are from Elle's Studio and American Crafts.  I added some Gold Color Shine to these selfies to bring out the pops of gold I have going around the layout.

I love how the Shimmerz Dazzlerz spread so easily with a dry brush.  I smudged some on with a palette knife and then blended it until it was dry with a flat brush.  It went on nicely over the tapes, too.  Here you can see some of the pretty sequins.

I love this messy circle die cut!  It's so versatile and can be worked into any project.  And check out the pretty gold doilie...I need about a million of those!  My flair is from A Flair For Buttons.  I only used one sheet of patterned paper here, and I also added some tangled thread.

I did a bit of machine stitching for added detail.  I also used a few clear stickers from a MAMBI sticker book.  Those pink hearts were punched from washi tape on white cardstock.  That's a great way to make your own embellishments.

SpiegelMom Scraps Blog Hop Day 1

Hello everyone and welcome to day 1 a very special Triple Hop weekend with SpiegelMom Scraps!  I'm so excited to be a Guest Designer for this weekend! Today is all about FELTIES!!!!  These are awesome felt die cut shapes available in the store HERE.

Here's my layout.  I decided to create one of my favorite types of layouts, which a summer pool design.  I started with white cardstock and clear gesso.  I used a Heidi Swapp sunburst stencil and some yellow paint to created the sun rays.  I came back over that with some blue Shimmerz sprays and a gelato.  Once everything was dry, I machine stitched with yellow thread on all the sun rays.  I created my "sky" around the sun using some of the Cloudy Days and Heart Felties mixed with some cute cloud cut files from The Cut Shoppe.

This layout has a ton of texture going on here.  The Felties are such great embellishments!  I love how the hearts look layered together, and they really pop against the colorful background.  I love the cut files behind them, too.

I used some of the SpiegelMom sequins on this layout, too.  These yellow, pink and blue sequins are from the Let's Be Mermaids pack. They were meant for me because those are all my favorite colors!  I glued them sporadically around the layout.  I also pulled in some Bella Blvd enamel hearts, some stickers from Simple Stories & a Freckled Fawn puffy sticker.

My big title design is a cut file from the Silhouette Store.  I sprayed it with Shimmerz and added some yellow and pink thread behind it.  I love the fun whimsical feel of it and how it looks against the bright blue.

Here's another look at the cute Felties.  I think I could use these clouds on every page from now on!

I added some journaling at the bottom and worked it around my title, the sun ray and the sequins.

I Love You This Much / Hip Kit Club

Hello again, friends!  I have another layout for Hip Kit Club to share.  Again, I used the 2016 August Hip Kits.  For whatever reason, I really struggled to get started with this page.  I had scrapper's block and just could not come up with an idea that I liked.  It wasn't the products' fault.  I must've started over at least five times!  Some days the ideas just flow so easily and other days it feels like I've never created a layout in my life.  I finally decided to use one of Ashley's cut files and enlarge it.  I made it my title and spaced it out on the white cardstock.  I backed it with one of the Project Life cards and one of the Crate Paper Cute Girl papers.  I did a little bit of coloring with the Prima Oil Pastels behind the photos and a little at the bottom behind the flower and cat.  Although it was a frustrating start, I like how this turned out.

I wanted to use some of Claudia VanR's exclusive die cuts on this page.  She designed such a beautiful set, and these gorgeous watercolor flowers just had to be used.   I incorporated a few of them around the layout as well as some of the Crate Paper puffy Thickers, Amy Tangerine clear stickers and Dear Lizzy clear stickers.

I added some tangled thread under the die cuts for extra pops of color and texture.  I also machine stitched through the title with white thread.  I love the pretty blended lines of color in that PL card up top.

I cut this Dear Lizzy clear sticker into individual pieces and spaced it out under the photos.  My photo on the right had just the right space to layer that floral puffy sticker on it.  I love layering things on top of the photos if there's room and it doesn't detract from the photo.

Here's a closer look at the top part of the title/cut file.  I used one of the aqua blue pastels above the photos since there was a lot of pink up top.  I used my waterbrush to smudge the pastels around.  I didn't use any gesso since I really didn't need that much water to blend them.

I used another exclusive flower down at the bottom, and I did more pastel work in pinks & oranges.  I just wanted it lightly peeking out from behind this cluster.  I added some Amy Tangerine & Dear Lizzy stickers as well as more enamel dots.

This cat is so cute!  I just had to incorporate it into the page somehow even though it has nothing to do with cats...haha.  I love the pop of pink, and I felt like I needed some yellow down there, so I added some pastels & thread.
