Where Are You?

Hello there, and happy Thursday :)  I hope your Summer is starting off nicely.  Ours is nice and hot, and we've been spending the past few days in the pool.  I wish it was pool weather all year round :)

Here's a page I created for My Scraps and More last week.  I pulled out the newest lines from Lily Bee...Pinwheel and Sweet Shoppe.  I noticed right away that there were a lot of primary colors.  I was instantly inspired to create a rainbow of sorts.  I really love this chevron paper, but it's busy and overwhelming, so I used some black paint and my finger to create some separation between my photos and the background.  I also backed my paper strips and photos onto black cardstock to break up the busy-ness.

I also used matching paints to create drips.  I just held the bottle up to the paper and squeezed some out...easy!  I spritzed the streaks with water to help it drip a little better.

I cut my title with my Cameo...I just love that machine!

Enjoy the Flowers + a paint tutorial

Happy Tuesday, friends!  Today I'm sharing another page I created using the fabulous June Main Kit from My Creative Scrapbook.  I absolutely love all of the Mayberry goodies included from American Crafts!  They were perfect to scrap this photo of my little Reesie from a few springs ago.  Our azaleas were in full bloom and were the perfect backdrop for this little photoshoot.

I added a little texture to my background with a mask and some modeling paste.  I lightly chalked over it to give it slight pink touch.  The rest is layering and paint drips...and then adding in embellishments here and there.

Here is a quick tutorial I created for the MCS blog on how I create my big paint splatters.  If you don't have a medicine dropper, this is another way to do it and it works great!  Your fingers get messy, but who cares, right?!  :D

Play Time

Hey there, friends :)  I can't believe I forgot to post this layout from last month!  The girls from My Creative Scrapbook were special guests of The Color Room in May, and took part in both of their color palette challenges.  It completely slipped my mind that I hadn't posted this one...oops!  You can go HERE to see the color palette, sketch and full reveal from the MCS girls and TCR team.  Beautiful pages everywhere!

I'm really enjoying making pages from scratch lately.  I go through phases where I don't feel like using specific papers, and I just grab some paints and create my own background.  It's a great opportunity to use up those little things...like cardboard, stamps, washi tape, and those other random things that you have laying around that you didn't think you'd use....like old transparencies!  That glittery green flower and blue frames are SO old I don't even remember buying them.  But they matched my color scheme, so I made them useful :)

My Scraps Got Talent...1st Challenge!

Happy Saturday, friends!  I'm here with you today to remind you about our Got Talent III contest going on over on our boards...we just started yesterday with our first challenge.  The challenge is to use NO PATTERNED PAPER...pretty hard, huh?  You should see the awesome pages our members are creating!  They are tackling it and loving it, and surprising themselves!

Here's what I created as my sample page...lots of paint, tissue paper, stamping, washi tape, some old Fancy Pants transparencies, chipboard and a die-cut title.  I just went through my stash and picked out random things that were pink and yellow.  I started by painting and then literally just started stamping in various places.  I laid my photo down and started adding the tape.  It's all a matter of layering, and there's no right or wrong place to put something.  That's the beauty of the messy factor :)

A close up of the tissue paper.  I just tore some and used some glossy accents to stick it down.  I put some on my finger and just smoothed it over the top.

This piece with the circles cut out was actually the backing of a sheet of old circle stickers.  It added some texture and interest, and I just gessoed over it and added all my goodies on top of it.

I gessoed and painted this butterfly with my fingers and then traced around him with a black pen.

I created five layouts using the Main Kit, which is filled with the Mayberry line from American Crafts.  There are some gorgeous colors and patterns in it, and I just couldn't get enough of it!  Here is one page I made with it...

I love the yellow background paper...this huge scalloped circle was perfect for my design idea.  I traced around it and added some pink paint on the inner scallops.  I love the blue flower paper because it matched Paige's bright blue eyes in this photo :)  I layered up more papers and added some strips here and there.  The chipboard embellishments in the kit are so awesome...they made my title work so easy!  I also added in a bit of the sequins included in the kit...it gives it a little shiny kick!

This is one of my favorite kits so far...you really should get your hands on one!  I'll be sharing my other four pages throughout the month.

A few My Scraps pages...

It's Tuesday!  Tomorrow is the last day of school in our neck of the woods.  I'm so ready for summer!  I can't wait to not have such a tight schedule for a few months.  Today, I'm sharing a few My Scraps and More pages that I created over the past few weeks.

This one is based on the current sketch over on the My Scraps Sketch Blog HERE.  Audrey Yeager created the awesome sketch, and I flipped it on its side.  I used the new Mint Julep line from Basic Grey...something out of my usual comfort zone.  I added some modeling paste through an arrow mask and lightly colored some of it with chalk.  I added some splatters, some washi and some twine, and that was it :)  The chipboard shapes in this line are pretty awesome, I must say.

This page features the Sweet Girl line from Echo Park...one I can't get enough of!  The colors and patterns are just my cup of tea.  I decided to go with big circles as my background.  I outlined a lot of the patterns with a black pen, and it makes a big difference, I think.  I added a few stamps here and there as well.  When I added m paint splatters, I accidentally splattered one right onto the photo...check out Reese's forehead....haha.  Nice blue splotch there.  Note to self....move photo before slinging paint everywhere...ha!

Challenge Me Happy #47

Happy Sunday, everyone!  Can you believe it's June already?  Really?!  Time keeps marching on, and that means it's time for another fun challenge over at Challenge Me Happy :)  This one was fun...and probably one I'd never think to do on my own.

The challenge is to scrap about a NAME...the history of it, why you gave a name to someone, what a name means....anything to do with a name.  Fun, huh?

I decided to scrap about my first born's name...Reese.  It was at the top of my list for my daughter for a long time, and it pretty much stayed there.  My husband I agreed on a name that didn't need shortening.  My name is Melissa, but I've always been called Missy.  We compromised because he didn't want any confusion with nicknames or anything.  So we came up with a list of names, and although we had a few on it, Reese was our favorite.  And plus, I absolutely adore Reese Witherspoon, so it just stuck out to me. And now our little Reese looks exactly like a Reese :)

I used the Heidi Swapp Sugar Chic line for this....I just LOVE it so much!  I did sort of a grid here, and I wanted to use all the main colors...black, yellow, pink and green.  I added some black paint behind the four squares to give it some separation from the black stripes and to add some dimension.
