Bahaha! / Cocoa Vanilla Studio

Hello, friends!  Happy Wednesday :)  I have a funny (and fun) layout to share today for Cocoa Vanilla Studio using the You Rock collection.  I have really loved the challenge of using this “boy” collection for layouts about my silly girls.  This photo makes me laugh…look at that goofy face!  This week we are featuring projects that showcase our individual style.  I used mixed media, which is my favorite.  I was also in the mood to play with washi tape, so I took all the You Rock Washi Tape and stuck it all down on some white cardstock.  I used my circle punches to create lots of different sized circles to use around the photo.  I actually loved how the scrap paper looked after punching all the circles, so I cut it in half and used it as well.  My background paper is the Artisan paper from Wild at Heart, and I smudged a lot of white acrylic paint on it first.  I used coordinating colors of ink sprays to get the color behind everything.

I went through all the embellishments and discovered there are tons of circles!  I used one from the Chipboard Stickers, several from the Ephemera Die Cuts and even some tiny ones I punched.  I used more of the Washi Tape here with these cute phrases.  The Accessory Sticker Sheet is full of really funny phrases, so I used a few of those around the page, too.

I added some foam adhesive under a few of the circles to create some depth.  I topped this big circle with a few sentiments.  One is a die cut and one is a Rubber Charm.  I used the navy alpha stickers from Hello Sunshine.  You can also see some black machine stitching on the background.  I did some zig zag stitches as well as some messy straight stitching.  I like how it adds to the messy background.

I used a chipboard frame over my photo and then topped it with another chipboard circle.  Here you can see the scrap paper that I punched the circles from.  It looked too cool to throw away, so I used it!

Here’s one more close-up of the top area.  I did add a few bits of tangled thread in two spots for added texture and color.

It's really fun to layer lots of products together like this.  Creating these washi circles was really easy, and you can do this with any tapes to create your own color scheme.  It's fun to think outside the box and do something different :)

I really love how this turned out!  It’s a lot of fun to make a collection work for something that it’s not intended for.  Even though most of the pieces in the You Rock line are meant for boys, I have made it work for several girl pages.  Give it a try!  Here’s my process video if you’d like to check it out:

Thanks so much for stopping by, and have a great day!

  1. I love what you did with the circle punch and the negative piece. Such a great idea over your lovely background. I'm going to a retreat on the weekend, so I will be sure to take my circle punch with this in mind. Thanks!
